Algorithm Developer - Layer 2 Simulation

Location: Abu Dhabi


We are looking for an experienced Layer 2 Algorithm Developer to design, simulate and optimise advanced wireless communication algorithms and protocols.

This is a highly technical R&D position focused on Layer 2 simulation, MAC, routing, scheduling and resource allocation for advanced wireless networks, including MANET and tactical communication systems.


You will work closely with waveform architects, simulation engineers and embedded software teams, taking algorithms from initial concept and simulation through to real-time implementation.


Key Responsibilities

Layer 2 Algorithm & Protocol Development

  • Design, develop and optimise Layer 2 algorithms for MAC, LLC, routing, scheduling and resource allocation.
  • Develop protocols for MANET, Wi-Fi, LTE/4G/5G and high-mobility wireless environments.
  • Optimise network performance across latency, reliability, throughput, fairness, scalability and resilience.

Simulation & Performance Analysis

  • Develop and evaluate Layer 2 algorithms using OMNEST, NS-3 or similar network simulation frameworks.
  • Develop mobility models, traffic models, simulation scenarios and performance-analysis tools.
  • Analyse algorithm behaviour across different network topologies, mobility profiles and operating conditions.
  • Identify performance bottlenecks and develop algorithmic improvements.
  • Build automation and statistical-analysis tools for simulation results.

Implementation & Collaboration

  • Work closely with waveform, PHY, simulation, embedded software and systems engineering teams.
  • Support the transition of algorithms from simulation into real-time platforms.
  • Participate in technical design reviews, code reviews and system-level troubleshooting.


What We're Looking For

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, Computer Science or a related discipline; PhD advantageous.
  • Strong hands-on experience designing Layer 2 algorithms and protocols for wireless networks.
  • Deep understanding of MAC, scheduling, routing, resource allocation and wireless networking.
  • Experience with MANET, tactical communications, Wi-Fi, LTE/5G or similar wireless technologies.
  • Strong hands-on experience with network simulation.
  • Experience with OMNEST, NS-3 or comparable simulation frameworks.
  • Strong C++ development skills.
  • Experience with Python for simulation, automation and data analysis.
  • Good understanding of PHY-layer concepts and their impact on Layer 2 performance.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
